SightSmash Parent Scorer: privacy policy

Last updated July 24, 2026.

This page covers the SightSmash Parent Scorer mobile app, the standalone volleyball scoring app parents use from the stands. It is a separate product from both sightsmash.com, the marketing site, and the SightSmash coaching application. Each has its own privacy policy; this one describes the Parent Scorer app only.

The short version

SightSmash Parent Scorer does not collect your scorer data. It has no account or login, and its scoring experience works fully offline without calling a backend. The information you enter, including your child's name and every stat you tap during a match, is stored in the app's private local database. The app does not send it to SightSmash. Your operating system may include that database in a personal device backup. You can also choose to export or share scorer data. Fixed privacy, terms, and email links open your phone's browser or mail app without attaching anything from the scorer database.

What the app stores

The app stores the following, and only the following, in a local database on your device:

  • The name you enter for each athlete you track, plus an optional jersey number and position.
  • The opponent name and date you enter when you start a match.
  • Every stat you tap during a match, and the result of each one.
  • The score of each set or period, and the final result of each match.

The app does not transmit or sync this data to SightSmash or to any server we operate. Your phone's operating system may include the app's private local database in a device backup associated with your personal Apple or Google account, depending on your device and backup settings. SightSmash cannot access or control those backups.

What leaves the device

The scorer database is not sent to SightSmash or any developer-operated service. You control four operating-system handoffs: Share passes a plain-text match summary to the phone's share sheet; Export creates a copy for you to save or share; fixed Privacy Policy and Terms links pass their public sightsmash.com URLs to your system browser; and the email link passes a contact address to your mail app. Import reads only the backup file you select.

The fixed web links attach no athlete, match, stat, device identifier, or other scorer data. Your browser and the website provider may process ordinary connection information, such as an IP address, under the website's policy. The email link sends nothing unless you compose and send a message, and only your chosen content is included.

The scorer WebView itself makes no backend, analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or update request. Operating-system services outside it, such as the browser or mail app you open, the share sheet, app-store updates, and a device backup you have enabled, may use a network under your control or your platform provider's control.

Support and privacy email

If you choose to email us, we receive the email address, message, attachments, and ordinary mail metadata that you and your mail provider send. The app does not prefill or attach athlete, match, or stat data. Please do not attach a scorer export or include a child's information unless it is necessary for the question you want us to answer.

We use voluntary correspondence to respond, troubleshoot, protect the service, and maintain records reasonably necessary for those purposes or required by law. It may be processed by the email providers used to deliver and host the mailbox. We do not sell it or use it for advertising. We keep it only as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes, subject to legal obligations, and you may ask us to delete it at the privacy address below.

Where your data lives

Everything is stored in a local SQLite database in the app's private storage. On the web build this is your browser's local storage (IndexedDB). On the iOS and Android apps this is the device's own private app storage. If you have enabled a device backup, Apple or Google may retain an encrypted or account-protected backup copy under its own terms. We do not receive a copy. We cannot see it, recover it, or hand it to anyone, because it never reaches us.

How to delete your data

You control scorer-database deletion directly, with no request to us required, because we hold no developer copy of that database. Voluntary email correspondence is covered separately above.

  • To delete one match, open it from that athlete's match history and tap Delete.
  • To delete an athlete and every match, set, and stat tracked for them, delete the athlete from the athlete list. This is permanent and cannot be undone.
  • To delete the app's current on-device database, uninstall the app. A previously created Apple or Google device backup may retain a backup copy and may restore it if you reinstall or restore your phone. To remove those copies too, review and delete the relevant device or app backup through your Apple or Google account or device backup settings.

Children's data

This app is built for a parent to track their own child's match, standing in the stands, on the parent's own phone. It stores a child's first name (or whatever name the parent chooses to enter) and that child's match statistics locally on the parent's device. That data is never transmitted to or collected by us. A platform backup the parent has enabled may contain the app's private local data under the parent's personal Apple or Google account; we cannot access it.

This local-first design has no account, advertising, analytics, or developer-operated data collection. The app is intended for adults who are tracking an athlete; it is not directed to children and does not ask a child to create an account or submit information. This is a description of how the app works. The app does not ask a child to create an account, provide contact information, or transmit scorer data to SightSmash.

No third parties, no analytics, no ads

The app includes no advertising, analytics, usage tracking, crash reporting, or third-party data-collection SDK. It does use user-interface/framework code and on-device plugins for local SQLite storage, local file transfer, and the OS share sheet; those components do not send scorer data to SightSmash. No scorer data about you or your child is sold or transmitted by the app to any third party. User-initiated export/share, fixed browser/mail handoffs, and a platform-managed device backup are the operating-system paths described above. The fixed links attach no scorer data, and SightSmash cannot access the platform backup.

To be exact about scope: this section describes the scorer app on your device. The sightsmash.com website that hosts this policy is a separate surface, and it does use one cookieless page-view counter (Cloudflare Web Analytics). That counter runs only on the website, never inside the app, and it never sees any scorer data. The website's own practices are described in the site privacy policy.

How long we keep scorer data and correspondence

The app does not deliver its scorer database to us, so we do not retain a developer copy of that database. Your current on-device copy remains until you delete it or uninstall the app. Voluntary support/privacy correspondence is handled and retained only as described in the email section above.

Android Auto Backup and Apple's iCloud or device-backup services may include the app's private database when backup is enabled for your device. Those backups are associated with your personal platform account, are governed by Apple or Google, and may persist after you uninstall the app or may restore the data later. SightSmash has no access to them. You control their retention through your device and platform-account backup settings.

Your rights

Under GDPR, you may have rights to access, correct, restrict, object to, and erase personal data. Under CCPA and similar laws, you may have rights to know, delete, correct, or opt out of certain uses. For the scorer database, we have no developer copy to return, correct, or erase; you control the local and platform-backup copies described above. If you voluntarily emailed us, contact the privacy address below to ask about or delete that correspondence, subject to identity verification and any legal exception.

If you ever believe that's not true, for example if you find evidence this app is sending data somewhere, email us at the address below and we'll look into it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the last-updated date at the top of this page will change with it. Because the app collects nothing, changes here are expected to be rare and administrative rather than changes to what the app actually does.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States.
